It has been nearly five years since Firenock has been trying to build a better parallel plier. As of this morning, we have one ready to be sold. It has been six generations of prototypes from four different suppliers. The parts are from Baoji, China, for CNC Titanium Parts, and Brass from Malaysia and Hong Kong. Each plier is hand-built and individually tested in Henry, Illinois, USA.
This parallel plier we've developed weighs in at 4.3oz and boasts a maximum jaw opening of 0.525" or 13.5mm, surpassing any similar design on the market. What truly sets it apart is the unique scissor handle, which is patent-pending, along with other innovative features that are also patent-pending.
This plier consists of six CNC-machined GR5 titanium parts (four handle pieces and two jaw pieces), one set of GR5 titanium mating screws, seven sets of oil-impregnated machine brass screws, and a piano stainless steel wire retraction spring. We also use precision 420 stainless 0.1mm x 3mm spacers for tolerance control for the mating screws pairs for optimum operation.
Since all parts are corrosion-resistant, it will be great for those who love saltwater fishing and boating. We tested this capability by submerging it in saltwater outside under direct sun for over six months with no ill effect. A hook barb-flattering notch and sleeve crimp are built into the jaws for fishing use. For those interested in using this in the MRI room, we shall offer another version using an industrial rubber band instead of the piano wire retraction spring to eliminate any effect on the extreme magnetic field in MRI rooms. The current version will be great for electric cars and wind turbines where a reasonably large amount of magnet is present. Titanium and Brass will not be affected by magnetic fields.
We are designing and sourcing a hoster and lanyard for it, which will make it easier to carry and access in the field and prevent it from dropping and being lost. This accessory can be purchased separately now or as a kit by winter 2024.
