Batteries

Since the very first version, the field changeability of our batteries have also been one of the most important and desirable features of the Firenock lighted nock system. Our main goal during the design process was to ensure that you could change your battery in the field without a tool.  That has and we promise that this will stay true.

We offer three custom battery chemistries (BR, BL, BU). Our standard “BR” battery is the most powerful.  Unfortunately however, it also has a relatively short shelf life and is only available for purchase from August to December.  Alternatives to the BR batteries and their limited shelf life are the “BL” and “BU” batteries.  The BL battery has three years of shelf life and the BU seven after the year of manufacture, but there is an exchange of power.  For while BU is our most stable battery, it has about 85% of the power of the BL battery, which has about 60% of the power of the BR battery.

To summarize why we at Firenock believe that we have offered a complete power solution for archers using the Firenock lighted nock system, below is a list of recommended uses for each of the types of batteries available to all our customers:

   •   BR is the ideal winter season battery, handing most open season temperatures in the USA.
   •   BL is the ideal all seasons battery, handling most low to the highest hunting temperatures in the USA.
   •   BU is the ultimate backup battery. Discontinued as of 7/1/2020 due to low sales

   •   BX is our extreme weather battery.  It is only available via special order as it is express delivered in a dry iced container.

Please remember that, although some Firenock batteries have a longer shelf life than one year, if you leave any battery installed for over six months, they will be drained.  We recommend removing your battery after long-term use i.e. after the hunting season.

Notes:
  1. Firenock batteries have a long shelf life. However, because Firenock lighted nocks are designed to remain active and ready for use at any time, if installed and left that way, their power will be depleted within 9 months. To prevent this, please remove the battery from the Firenock system whenever it is not in continuous use (for over three months).
  2. The BR battery is our fall deer season battery. We order them to be received by July 5th every year. With a temperature range of -17°F to 32°F, it has a shelf life of only 8 to 12 months. Please note that BR batteries begin to degrade at temperatures above 100°F and may die before the declared end of their shelf life if stored at these temperatures. We shall ship them until the lot is sold out; BL will be shipped instead.
  3. The BL battery is our general all-year battery, with about three years of shelf life and about 70% of the brightness of BR.
  4. The BU battery, with a minimum shelf life of seven years, was discontinued as of May 2020, but had been the preferred choice for long-term storage batteries.
  5. Due to their volatility, BX batteries must be ordered in advance with a minimum lead time of two months. They will be shipped to your hunting destination on dry ice, in an insulated box, and kept at a minimum temperature of 32°F. When ordering, express shipping and priority handling fees will be added to the cost.
  6. When our current battery has less than four months of published shelf life, we will give it away to customers who purchase battery packs. You will have more battery to play with, or at least some extra battery-pin O-rings, which tend to get lost easily.
  7. During the regular archery season from September 15th to January 15th, when BR or BL runs out, an alternative will be provided due to time constraints.
  8. The current deer season BR should start shipping on July 5th of that year. If you purchase a pack after March 1st and before July 4th, a BL pack will be added. If we ran out of BR, a pack of BL would be sent in its place. It is to ensure that you have a fully charged battery for the upcoming deer season. After we receive the fall deer season batteries, typically around July 5th, if we still have last year's BR in stock, we will offer a complimentary pack as a bonus while supplies last. Every deer fall-season battery should be manufactured on or after July 1st and have a best-before date of August of the following year.
